Genelia rushes to see Ken Ghosh after midnight mass

MUMBAI - Director Ken Ghosh says that Genelia D’Souza, who plays female lead in his forthcoming film “Chance Pe Dance”, came to meet him post midnight mass on Christmas to see the final cut of the movie.

At midnight on Thursday Ghosh finished editing and post-production of “Chance Pe Dance” and was feeling like sharing the moment with his lead pair. The film’s lead actor Shahid Kapoor was unavailable. On an impulse he called up Genelia.

“And guess what? She agreed to come down to Pixion in Bandra where I was editing straight from midnight mass which was in a church nearby. I never thought she’d do this, what with Christmas being an important day in her home. But she did,” Ghosh told IANS.

“But then Genelia has been hands-on with this project, almost like a part of the production team.

“Even I was supposed to be back home with my wife and kids for Christmas, opening gifts. But since it was the final day of post-production, I had no way of avoiding work even on Christmas. I really wanted to share that moment with my actors,” said Ghosh.

Genelia’s enthusiasm for the editing and post-production of “Chance Pe Dance” was due to her proximity to the project in more ways than one.

“Genelia lives down the road from Pixion where we edited ‘Chance Pe Dance’. And her gym is in the same building as Pixion. So throughout the editing and post-production Genelia has been dropping in. But on Christmas night she outdid herself,” said the director.

“Before she left, she gave me the best Christmas gift ever. A big hug. Throughout the shooting of ‘Chance Pe Dance’ she has been our sunshine girl. So much so that when she wasn’t on the sets all of us would actually get depressed and perk up the minute she came back,” he said.

Two New Movie Theatres in Hyderabad

Cine Planet, a multiplex was constructed at Kompally and Vijayalakshmi 70mm, was opened at LB Nagar. Both of them were inaugurated recently and thrown open for pubic.

While Prabhas- Nayanatara starrer Yogi was the opening film in Vijayalakshmi, the Cine Planet Multiplex is screening Yogi , Desamuduru and Guru (Hindi) in its two screens.

Sex Goddess Shakeela to wed next year

Tollywood 2009 report: Hits and Flops

The year 2009 would go down in Tollywood annals as a mixed one. Of the 125 theatrical releases, only six were declared hits by the trade guides, pushing producers, distributors and exhibitors in the middle of a major financial mess (losses to the tune of Rs 300 crore were incurred on Telugu films and 120 theatres shut shop).

Though Telugu filmmakers did their bit to woo the audience with varied genres — suspense thrillers (Kavya’s Diary, Amaravathi and Katha), horror movies (Diary and Aa Intlo) romances (Boni and Kurradu), family dramas (Mithrudu and Bangaru Babu) and even small concept movies (Villagelo Vinayakudu, Indhumathi), the audience didn’t seem to like any of them.

Hit Films

Amidst a heap of flops, the brightest spot was Magadheera starring Ram Charan Tej and Kajal Agarwal. The film became the highest Tollywood grosser ever made (Rs 57 crore and counting). There are now reports that the film is being remade in Hindi even as leading production houses fight over the film’s original rights. Anushka and Sonu Sood’s Arundhati made Rs 30 crore and was the first hit of the year. Ravi Teja scored a hit with Kick (it earned over Rs 22 crore).

Small was bountiful

About 40 small-budget films hit the screens. And surprise, surprise! Some of them went on to be money-minting projects too. While Prayanam (Rs 5 crore) and Ride (Rs 8 crore) were hits, Bendu Apparao also made money (Rs 9 crore). “The audience thumbed down clichéd masala flicks. Novelty is the key,” says filmmaker M S Raju whose Maska didn’t work at the BO.

Dubbed delights

This seems to be Hollywood’s big year in AP. While the Telugu version of Hollywood blockbusters 2012 (earned Rs 30 crore) and Avatar were huge successes, even other dubbed flicks like Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon earned big bucks too. Even small towns warmed up to dubbed Hollywood films.

Kollywood misses mark

It was a bad, bad year for Kollywood superstars Vikram, Vishal and Suriya in T-Town. Their dubbed Mallanna (Vikram), Pista (Vishal) and Ghatikudu (Suriya) collectively lost Rs 30 crore.

Youth brigade

The charismatic Allu Arjun tried something new when he essayed a grey role in Arya 2 (the film raked in Rs 15 crore in the first weekend alone). Six-packer Prabhas’ Ek Niranjan earned Rs 12 crore as opening week collections. Star son Nag Chaitanya’s launchpad Josh also posted good openings and the youngster is now doing another “different” film with Gautham Menon. Allari Naresh bounced back with a laugh-riot (Bendu Apparao) while Manchu Manoj tasted moderate success with Prayanam. Siddharth had a hit in Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam and a dud in Oye, while Varun Sandesh had a disappointing Evariana Eppudaina and Kurradu. Nani had a hit in Ride and a flop in Snehithuda, while Tanish scraped through with Ride.

Missing in action

T-Town’s biggest stars Mahesh Babu, NTR Junior, Nagarjuna and Pawan Kalyan had no releases this year. Only Venkatesh had a release in Eenadu. Unfortunately the film didn’t work.

Reign women

Among the reigning divas of Tollywood, only Anushka seems to be flying high after Arundhati. The other screen scorchers Ileana (Rechipo), Genelia (Sasireka Parinayam), Nayanthara (Anjaneyulu) and Hansika (Jayeebhava) all had flops to their credit. Upcoming stars Aksha and Swetha Basu tasted success with Ride and Harika too had a Prayanam to her credit. Kangna Ranaut’s Rs 1 crore dream debut with Ek Niranjan made her the most expensive debutante in Tollyland, but the film was a commercial letdown.

The Big Picture

Summing up the scenario, thespian Ramanaidu who bounced back with Bendu Apparao says, “For decades the success ratio has always wavered between 10 per cent to 20 per cent, but this year things have been bad. I hope things improve next year,” he adds.

With spiraling cost of production as stars and directors continue to take home hefty pay cheques, paucity of ‘novel scripts’, here’s hoping for some more miracles in Tollywood in 2010. Perhaps the best is yet to come.

Tollywood loses 30 crore to TRS attacks

The Telugu film industry has lost over Rs. 30 crore since November 29 following the political developments across all the three regions, which have begun hampering the production and exhibition sectors. According to the Producers Council Secretary T. Prasanna Kumar, the film ‘Arya-2’ starring Allu Arjun alone lost about Rs. 3 crore because theatres across the Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana regions were not allowed to screen the film.

The suspense-thriller ‘Amaravathi’ lost Rs. 70 lakh across the State. In the State capital alone, the 10 shows that did not take place led to a loss of Rs. 30 lakh. The Priyamani and Jagapati Babu-starrer ‘Pravarakhyudu’ lost Rs. 50 lakh. Meanwhile, Chief Minister K. Rosaiah directed the Director General of Police to take necessary measures to prevent attacks on film production units.

Gauthami to direct Kamal Hassan?

If the sources are to be believed on the big news that Kamal Hassan has finally roped in his mentor K. Balachandar to act in his film. This film to be scripted by Kamal will be produced by his home banner Raaj Kamal Films. There were rumors that the film will be directed by will be none other than actress Gauthami, who shares a special relationship with Kamal Hassan and has been his associate in different capacities in all his films.

However, when contacted, Gauthami said, “I can’t think of such things. I have a long way to go and prove myself in film making. And that too KB sir? I can’t even imagine it!” Madhavan is said to be playing the central character in the untitled movie and Shruthi Hassan is said to be composing the tracks for the film.

Rajashekar-targets-Pawan

Actor Rajashekar’s new film Sathyameva Jayathe is now all set to hit the screens on February 13. Jeevitha is the director and Rajashekar and Jeevitha are now facing allegations from actor Neethu Chandra who says that she was harassed and abused by the actor couple during the shooting of Sathyameva Jayathe.

We suggest him that if he tours in the Telangana region and convince his agitating fans with his preaching for Unified Andhra then it would be a wise thing. But, he is touring where there is no requirement to preach the people about his stand.”

Speaking to a News Channel yesterday they have opined that “TRS attacks on Mahesh Babu Film shooting takes place, because the TRS workers might have negative feelings about his father Nagarjuna who was allegedly occupied the Government lands.”

He has build a Commercial Complex in the site, where as it is meant for constructing a Film Studio. TRS thinks that film makers from Andhra and Rayalaseema areas have overpowered the Telangana people by occupying their precious lands and chasing them away from their ancestor’s place. That’s why they are angry on Tollywood people, which is mainly dominated by them only.”

Mohan Babu makes Provocative speeches
When asked to comment about the attacks on Manoj’s film shooting Dr.Rajashekar opined that it is because of his father Mohan Babu’s stand for Unified Andhra. “He and his daughter Lakshmi Prasanna are making very provocative statements these days. TRS workers were angry for his stand and fumed with his provocative statements. They keep attacking all others who are shooting their films in Telangana region, only because of such provocative statements. First of all Mohan Babu should not make such statements. If he is feeling himself as film personnel then he should not involve in political matters and confine to film industry only.”

Attacks because NTR belongs to TDP
Speaking about the TRS attack on Jr.NTR’s film shooting, Dr Rajashekar and Jeevita opined that it happens because the TRS workers see him representing TDP party, which is still not comes open with stand on Telangana issue. So far, TDP did not reveal whether they support Unified Andhra or Separate Telangana. That’s why TRS is angry with NTR whom they feel belongs to Unified Andhra side.

3 Idiots collects Rs 20 crores one day

3 Idiots is set to outwit the other big stars at the box office on Friday. Going by the movie’s performance at cinema halls, the producer and distributors expect to close Friday with Rs 20-crore gross revenue. In comparison, other hits like Love Aaj Kal and Kambakkht Ishq grossed Rs 9-10 crore on their first day. Aamir Khan has been having blockbuster Christmas releases for three years now.

The actor’s latest flick earned worldwide gross revenues of Rs 9 crore on Thursday, Rs 2 crore more than his 2008 hit, Ghajini. Produced by Vinod Chopra Productions, 3 Idiots was distributed in collaboration with Reliance Big Pictures. Made on an estimated budget of Rs 35 crore, 3 Idiots has been released with 1,894 prints, of which 1,550 went to the Indian market and 344 went overseas.

No film releases in Telangana?

It is learnt that film makers who are ready with prints in the hand were in a frustrating situation because of the ongoing agitations in Telangana region. Many film producers and artists who hail from Andhra or Rayalaseema region were not in a mood to release their films across Telangana region, fearing protests and attacks by agitating people. It’s learnt that the Tollywood Producers Association which condemns the attacks is seriously considering not to release any new films in Telangana region till the dust settles and to go on with its release schedules in rest of the state.

Mainly, NTR’s film ‘Adurs’ Rana’s ‘Leader’, Jagapati Babu’s ‘Maa Naanna Chiranjeevi’ Balakrishna’s ‘Simha’ Nagarjuna’s ‘Kedi’ Power Star Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Komaram Puli’ and many other films will have to face ire of Telangana people because of the film maker’s and the artists Andhra background or for their ‘Pro-Samaikyandhra’ stand. If, the Telangana agitation continues further till Pongal festive session next year, film makers are obliged to release their films in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions only.

Pongal festive session is considered to be the peak session for any new films releases. Both big and low budget films plans to release during this festive session, to ensure maximum revenue for their films. But, the prevailing situation in Telangana is very discouraging for any new releases. The film makers who do not want to miss the festive revenue are planning to release their films in the rest of the state. Indeed, it is a big loss for the film industry as well as the exhibitors and distributors of Telangana region. But, it is a helpless situation for one and all in the industry.

TRS activists attack Brindavanam unit

After attacking Manoj, Allu Arjun, Mahesh Babu Film shootings and farmhouse of Pawan Kalyan, Telangana activists now attacked the shooting of NTR starrer Brindavanam in the old city today.

Produced by Dil Raju, was disrupted when the unit was filming key scenes in Old City area of Hyderabad. Some activists belonging to Telangana Rastra Samithi made protests in front of the location and tried to break in into the location.

Arya 2 and Magadheera in trouble

The current political crisis has already become a greater nightmare to Tollywood with some multiplexes and cinema theatres in Hyderabad refusing to screen Arya 2 and Magadheera.

The decision came as a counter-reply to Praja Rajyam Party chief K. Chiranjeevi, father of Ram Charan Teja's proposed hunger strike for a united Andhra Pradesh. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) raised a demand to boycott these movies in protest against the hunger strike. (Allu Arjun is a relative of Chiranjeevi and Magadheera features his son Ram Charan Teja as the hero.)

The protestors have also decided not to allow screening of films featuring Chiranjeevi's actor brothers Pawan Kalyan and Naga Babu.

Arya 2 is being screened across 17 theatres in Hyderabad; most of the theatre managements have sought the help of private security guards for screening the film.

Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam Party is set for a split over the ongoing dispute. Chiranjeevi has bowed to pressure from his party members and has resigned from his MLA post.

A decade and more after Titanic director James Cameron hit turns the spotlight of fame on himself again. ‘Avatar’, the quadri-lingual film in French, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil is all set to hit the screens here on December 18. As for Andhra Pradesh, the distributor is B. Madhu, the man who produced ‘Tagore’ with Megastar Chiranjeevi and ‘Ghajini’ with Aamir Khan. He says the Telugu version was releasing on 200 screens with 150 prints. Multiplexes across the country are said to have upgraded their technology to screen this 3-D movie.

Producer Shyamprasad Mr. Reddy, who made ‘Arundhati’ most recently says, “I do not think I have ever waited so much for a film to release. And the high expectations are simply Because it comes from a man like James Cameron who made films like ‘Aliens’, ‘True Lies’, ‘Abyss’ and ‘Titanic’. “The 161-minute film is the most expensive in world history, costing a whopping Rs 2400 crore. The most expensive was the Telugu film Ramcharan Tej-starrer ‘Magadheera’, directed by SS Rajamouli that cost Rs 38 crore ….

“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart,” said William Wordsworth. Thus, without letting our admiration for James Cameron come in the way of our verdict on ‘Avatar’, with a heavy heart, we’ll have to say that we found Cameron’s highly anticipated, expensive motion picture ‘Avatar’ disappointing.

Many who have seen the film have an opinion that since so much time (10 years), effort and sweat has gone into creating stereoscopic 3D effects for the film, and combining live and computer animation, one ought to appreciate it. True as it might be, at the end of the day, if a film fails to establish an emotional connect with the audiences, no effects whatsoever can salvage it or make it special.

Coming to the story, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) is an ex-marine who is forced into participating in Avatar program. The program is setup by humans and comprises of encroaching a distant moon Pandora as it has an abundance of precious minerals on its land. However, getting hold of Pandora won’t be easy as humans can’t breathe on it. Also, the warrior Na’vi tribe resides in it.

In order to encroach Pandora’s land, one has to be able to breathe its air and thus become one of the Na’vis. Scientists thus create these genetically-bred human-Na’vi hybrids known as Avatars. The Avatars have a Na-vi body and a human DNA. Jake becomes one such Avatar...human kind’s weapon to make truce with Na’vis and thus force them to evacuate their planet. As Jake starts shuttling between his human and Na’vi body, he starts getting emotionally attached to Pandora and there begins the conflict between his medium of existence.

Avatar begins well but goofs up as it progresses. The story which seems promising initially starts faltering the moment Cameron shows Jake fall in love with a Na’vi woman. The film then on becomes just another clichéd love story where a hero will save his lover and her people from the villains. The villains happen to be humans here who now want to wage a war on the Na’vis as they refuse to give in to their demands. Jake even readies himself to battle it out with the humans to save his Na’vi tribe... things people do for love! If the love wasn’t clichéd enough, Cameron even makes his hero single out the lead villain and engage him in a one-to-one fist fight with him!

Avatar begins well, drags tremendously in between and then picks up on its pace towards the climax, but its too late by then. Titanic oozed romance and we loved it but the setting of Avatar didn’t require romance as its prime ingredient. This wrong move of Cameron transforms a sci-fi ‘Avatar’ into a highly clichéd run-of-the-mill dramatic love story set against a war backdrop.

The film is a visual delight, but lacks an original plot. This visual treat doesn’t make up for the weak storyline. The infusion of human trauma in an idyllic fantasy setting doesn’t seem to be a good idea! Avatar loses direction somewhere along the way, and its huge length plays spoil sport too.

Performances are decent, but not outstanding. Unfortunately, so is the film! However, ‘decent’ is not what one expects from a James Cameron.

What's it about!

Satya (Ileana) returns to India after spending 14 years in Europe away from her parents. Munna (Vishnu) rescues her when her father’s rivals attempt to kidnap her. Munna wins the love of Satya’s family and tries to woo her. Satya too teases him and accepts his love. While everything seems going smooth, Satya elopes with her boyfriend Krish (Venkat), who is brother to Mafia don Ojo (Mohan Babu) to Europe. She informs her family that she hates being with crowded family members and always wanted to settle in life with Krish and used Munna as an excuse to run away from them. Now Munna heads to Europe to teach her a lesson.
Analysis

Some never learn from mistakes. Or so it seems. Even after delivering huge disaster like Okka Magadu, director YVS Chowdhary has come up with another film with no proper script and tried to present with formulaic and boredom inducing situations. His latest, Saleem, is yet another costly dud (given the huge production cost!). Right from the scene one the film drags on, never letting us know the plot line, by cheap gimmicks like creating false build-up shots for hero, flashbacks, etc. The film starts off with Ileana’s entry and the entire first half focuses on Ileana’s naval jutkas and midriff-show. In the second half, Mohan Babu’s (character is similar to Anil Kapoor’s role in Tashan) romance with Kaveri Jha takes the seat. In between hero Vishnu tries to steal the show but he is letdown by shoddy screenplay and trite dialogues.

Although the film has shot lavishly, it is script and narration that lacks fizz and is completely out of sync with the current trend of films.

Performances

Vishnu has shed his weight and looks lean. He is stylish in some costumes and he has also improved a lot in dialogue delivery. Ileana steals the show as entire film focuses on her glam exhibition. YVS has tried to use her skin show as trumpcard but after certain time, it doesn’t entice. In the role of O JO (Ogirala Jogaiah) as uneducated Don, Mohan Babu has put in his experience and has come up with neat performance. Kaveri Jha as sexy teacher is okay. Mukehshi Rishi, Venkat, Nepolean, and others are perfect for their roles.

Music by Sandeep Chowtha is big letdown. Except Mama Mia, none of the songs are neither foot tapping nor melodious. Cinematography by Ram Prasad is major asset. Also rich production values brought bright look to the movie. Screenplay ( Gopi Mohan, BVS Ravi) and direction is pretty ordinary. YVS seems to have stuck in his Lahari Lahari Lahari Lo days.

Story

Sasi Kumar (Jagapathi) and Shailaja (Priyamani) study in the same college and though they are of opposite natures Shailaja gets attracted to Sasi. However, he doesn’t believe in love and Shailaja is disgusted with him. They get into their lives separately.

Years pass and Sasi becomes a noted name in his field of Zoological studies. He leaves Harvard job and comes to join a girl’s college as a lecturer. The principal of that college is Shailaja. Telugu Movie Reviews

Why did he come to this college? Will their love rekindle? Will ‘no love’ factor transforms to ‘full love’? All this forms the rest of the story.

Artists Performance:

Jagapathi Babu: He has carried out his role with ease and the scenes where he is shown as a student, he looked too puffed up. Performance wise, it was a normal walk in the park so not much to be said.

Priyamani She has done her job perfectly in terms of glamour and performance department, though she looks more sensuous in the Indian outfits, Priyamani was seen in all varieties. Two emotional scenes were good from her.

Hamsa Nandini She has a brief presence and looks hot. As is the custom, she was given with a song and she has not disappointed.

Sunil Though his role was small, he managed to come up with good laughter from the audience.

Others Brahmanandam was regular, Dharmavarapu was effective, Ali failed to impress. Chalapathi Rao, Rajyalakshmi and other senior actors came up with the standard performances to add value to the film.

Final Analysis:

The director has come up with a simple tale of relationships and with a message that each has their own outlook depending on their experiences. The dialogues were simple but they could have added more depth, script was okay and screenplay was good during the first half. Comedy was not that much and editing was neat.

Costumes and art department made their presence felt. Full marks to cinematography and background score. The songs were captured really sensuous and though they were not situational, the picturization made up for it.

There were few silly things that the director could have avoided to make things look mature. Overall, the film relied heavily on the screenplay and due to that, the first half went smoothly without much complaint. However, the second half fizzled out and got dragged with unwanted songs and weak comedy. The climax should have been etched out with more impact to drive the message. The mass will like the songs and the family audience might find the narrative appealing barring a few elements of erratic script.

RGV is said to be the creative producer while Madhu Mantena will take over the reins of production. And rumours also say that Bachchan senior has agreed to be part of the project.

Puri on the other hand is now busy scripting the film which is expected to go on the floors sometime next year. The director is however maintaining silence about the issue. Considering how equations change in the industry with projects being shelved quite often, this comes as no surprise.

Katrina wants to move away from Salman

Katrina Kaif is on a house-hunting spree. Real estate sources from Bandra reveal that for the last few months, the actress has been searching for a ghar in Bandra area, that's far away from Galaxy Apartments (Salman Khan's residence) and closer to Krishna Raj (Ranbir Kapoor's bungalow)

The search for her dream home has become more frantic in the past few days, and she has visited nearly half a dozen buildings in that time.

The actress is on the lookout for a 4BHK space that's sea-facing. She has set aside a Rs 10 crore budget for the same. A property broker confirms that Kaif had seen a few apartments in Bandra's Carter Road and Pali Hill area. He is certain it won't be long before she picks a place, "She wants a big house and her budget is also good. It won't be a problem for her to find a good house. The only thing is she has to settle on one."

The search has been sporadic in the last few months because Kat often travels for her film and show commitments and recently, she even had a health scare and was bed-ridden for a few days.

Anushka Sharma has no time for home

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi actress Anushka Sharma can’t stop gushing about the three-bedroom apartment at Andheri’s Yari Road that she bought recently. While she bought it about a month ago and even moved there, she couldn’t spend too much time at home, because of her having to travel to the US for 40 days for her shooting.

Salman Khan's Veer in trouble again

Veer, the mega budget film of the year is having troubles more than one. Earlier, the buzz of creative difference between director Anil Sharma and Salman Khan was doing rounds, and now, location woes. The unit of Veer witnessed some tough time in London while shooting.

Apparently, the nightmare for Veer’s team started when they decided the location of sunflower
field for a shoot, but when the cast along with the crew reached the location hoping to see a field full of sunny sunflowers, they were astounded to see nothing but a barren landscape


The locals blamed a sudden change in the climate, which resulted in the disappearance of sunflower field, as all the plants had suddenly dried up. The shoot was scrapped but the director was adamant on having the same location for Veer.

Karan Johar gets marriage proposal

Recently, Karan Johar received a mail from a fan from Uzbekistan who proposed marriage to him along with a specially designed carpet with his image on it, thus dismissing the belief that it is only the lead actors and actresses who get marriage proposals in fan mail.

The parcel reached Karan on Sunday afternoon who was pleased to see the carpet. The parcel also contained a love letter from a girl, Dilbahar, which carried a marriage proposal for Karan. Although he was very touched that a fan had spent some time to write some nice things about him and had given him such a valuable present, he was also left a little embarrassed.

Priyanka and Shahid back together

It is true. If a couple gets back together after a break-up, the relationship
is for keeps. And Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor are just rediscovering the joys of being together after their split, and they are happier than ever. As reported earlier the couple went their separate ways last month. Soon after the split, the duo headed to Bangkok for film shoots. A source close to the two reveals that Shahid, who'd initiated 'the break' realised that he'd made a mistake. He found that he still had feelings for Priyanka. He felt that he rushed into the decision and hadn't taken the time to understand her better. He knew he wanted her back in his life but wasn't too sure how she would react to him because he'd 'dumped' her when she believed all along that they were perfect for each other. Shahid befriended Chopra's best friend
and close confidante, Tammana Sharma, who played Cupid between them the second time around.

The source says, "Shahid and Tammana have become good friends now. In fact, she was, in a way, responsible for getting the lovebirds back together. Shahid was already in Bangkok shooting for a film, while PC reached there a week later. They were at different locations but got a chance to sit down and talk things out. They went out on two occasions including dining out."

"I haven't apologised to Shahrukh” - Aamir Khan

It seemed that all had settled down between film industry's biggest superstars Aamir Khan
and Shahrukh Khan. In a recent TV chat show Aamir had apologised to Shahrukh Khan for writing a blog where he had mentioned that he had a pet dog called Shahrukh. Many in the industry had felt that Aamir was done with the rivalry and had extended an olive branch to SRK. But the 3 Idiots stars might not have meant what was understood by most in the tinsel town.
Aamir who was attending the release of a coffee table book on Guru Dutt said that he hasn't apologised to Shahrukh and he sees no reason to do so. Aamir added that he had apologised Shahrukh's children as they felt hurt reading his blog more than a year ago. He said that he was upset to hear that Shahrukh's children were unhappy with what her wrote and he had no intention of hurting them. He also said that he had stopped calling his dog by that name.

Incidentally Shahrukh's closest ally Karan Johar was sharing a genuine camaraderie with Aamir when the Ghajini star made these clarifications. Also present on the occasion was Katrina Kaif

Salman arranges Chopper for Kareena

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan showed great respect and professionalism to her co-star Kareena Kapoor on the sets of “Main aur Mrs Khanna” when Kareena was getting late for her next shooting and was running into trouble. The salu bhai managed to arrange him a chopper to go to the next shooting. The theme of the movie is very awesome as it deals with an extramarital love affair. Kareena is very hopeful for the success of the movie. The film is made as a joint production between Sohail Khan productions and UTV SpotBoy Pictures. The movie will be released on Oct 16 and Sohail Khan is also playing a role in the movie.

Kareena, Salman appear as a jodi in festive jewellery ads

Though their film Main Aurr Mrs Khanna did not ignite the box-office, Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor will be seen together as a couple in a series of commercials for a jewellery collection. The stars are endorsing the brand that caters to both men and women.

Of late, Bebo has featured in several ads with beau Saif Ali Khan, but for this endorsement, she has the other Khan for company. Sallu and Bebo will appear as a lovey-dovey couple celebrating festive occasions like Christmas and New Year with the sparklers.

A series of five commercials were shot at Mehboob Studios before Bebo took off for Australia for the shoot of Karan Johar's desi production of Stepmom. Salman, who is now sporting short hair, had his long tresses chopped on the sets itself.

Says a source, "When Salman arrived for the shoot, he had long hair but while getting ready in the vanity van, he had his stylist come along. He stepped out to face the camera in a brand new cut."
The ad has been directed by Marlon Rodrigues. The first of the ads highlighting Christmas and New Year goes on air this weekend.

Kirthi Chawla bids good bye to swimming suits

Kirthi Chawla is totally depending on the film Thirumathi Tamil, Ninavil Nindraval and Manmadha Rajyam. Kirthi while speaking to the media said,” All are giving importance to glamour.


I will agree to act in a film if only the story and character is good. In future I am bidding good bye to bikini dresses. I am doing wonderful roles in the films in which I am acting now. I have also purchased a land in the outskirts of Chennai to build a house after some time. I am planning to settle in Chennai.”

Poonam Bajwa says her pair is super

Poonam Bajwa who is pairing with Jeeva in the film Katcheri Arambam said,” Most of the scenes pertaining to me have been completed. This is not the usual heroine role.



This is the first time I am doing a role like this. In the first half I will be donning a different kind of role and in the second half I will be doing the just opposite role. I cannot say at this stage whether that role will be a negative one.



I had paired with Jeeva in Thennavattu and for the second time I am pairing with Jeeva in this film. Our pair has been received well among the audience. Even in this film the chemistry has worked out well. This film is not out and out action film but it also has comedy and sentiments.


Vadivelu is doing the comedy part. I am also acting with Vishnu in the film Drohi. There is a condition that I should not speak about Drohi so I am not in a position to speak about this film.”

Actor Karan loses weight

Nothing wrong in it, says Keerthi Chawla

“There is nothing wrong in doing glamour roles or acting with new faces. Acting is a profession. And an actress should be ready to meet the demands of filmmakers,” says Keerthi Chawla.

Claiming that many ask her why she is acting opposite new heroes, the actress says, ‘even Simran acted with freshers when she was the numero uno actress of Tamil cinema. So what’s wrong when I share the screen space with new faces?’

On her forthcoming ‘Thirumathi Thamizh’, which has filmmaker Rajakumaran in lead role, Keerthi Chawla says, “the storyline impressed me a lot. My role in the film has ample importance. Hence I had no hesitation in accepting the project.”

Informing that she is doing a ‘glamour role’ in ‘Agarathi’, the actress says, “the character demanded it. Everyone in the unit appreciated me a lot for my performance. They said I am fit for any kind of roles.”

‘Nai Kutty’ ready to come out

After many difficulties, V A Durai, the executive producer of ‘Baba’ and producer of ‘Pithamagan’, is ready to release ‘Nai Kutty’. Directed by Sadhaji, the film features newcomer Selvan and Nicole in lead roles.

“The film has been facing problems right from the initial stage. It was supposed to be directed by another director, but he failed to attend even the launch function. Another hero was about to act, but he too opted out,” says Durai.

“We reviewed the whole project and with Sadhaji coming in to wield the megaphone, we managed to sort out all the problems,” he says and adds: “Selvan had given a matured performance, while Nicole sets the screen on fire. Vijaya Bharthy's music is another highlight.”

On the film, he says, “Nai Kutty is a tale of a youth brought up in a Chennai slum. Realism and commercial elements are in a right mix. All credits go to Sadhaji and the entire cast and crew of the movie.”

Interestingly, Durai has settled the salaries of Nai Kutty’s cast and crew even before the film hit the screens. “Because, I am extremely happy with the result,” he says.

Arjun sheds weight

Action King' Arjun has shed six kilos for his forthcoming 'Vallakottai', to be directed by his lucky mascot A Venkatesh.

According to circles close to the actor, he had been on rigorous diet and workout to reduce the weight, as the character he is doing in the movie demanded it.

After 'Vathiyar' and 'Durai', Arjun and Venkatesh are coming together for 'Vallakottai'. The film would as usual be a typical Venkatesh kind of entertainer with usual mass masala ingredients, say sources in the know.

Says the filmmaker, who is currently directing Arun Vijay for 'Maanja Velu', "Work for Vallakottai would start soon. The film will be a perfect mix of action and sentiment. I am happy to work with Arjun again."

The director informs that a major portion of the movie would be shot in New Delhi. According to reports, the film is about a brainy and brawny man (Arjun), who wages a war against international terrorists. The movie will be produced by Raja for ESK Films International.

Salman and Ash relationship on the brink

Salman and Ash may be the best looking couple in the industry, but are they the happiest? According to the grapevine, there might just be a few cracks beneath their blissful façade. Apparently the two lovebirds were jigging at the Fire 'N Ice disco when a couple of males dared to cast their eyes upon Ash. Salman, the possessive fellow that he is, flexed his muscular mass and proceeded to give them a few of his famed 'dhishums' and took care of them once and for all. Apparently one of the eyewitnesses insists that Salman even gave Ash one swift slap, possibly for encouraging them! Though everybody is wondering why Ash quietly took the treatment, especially when she had stated that she 'would never submit to caveman tactics'! Hrithik mania helping Kiwi Tourism

According to Peter Healy, the trade commissioner of the New Zealand Trade and Development Board, the demand for visas/permit applications of Indian to the land of the Kiwis, have shown a marked increase post Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. The demand was so high that the High Commission couldn't cope with it, so they quadrupled the space of their office and doubled their staff to handle the overload. In fact a local paper reported Haley as saying "We call this additional area the 'Hrithik Addition'. We invited Hrithik to open the building but unfortunately he was abroad." Here are the bare statistics are that the number of student visas/permits issued in January this year were 15, in Feburary, they zoomed to 70! In July '99, 42 visas were issued while July 2000 recorded over 150! See the difference? Even the tourist inflow has doubled to 600-700 per month. Not just from India but from Indians all over the world. Apparently it's the beautiful locales showcased in the movie that attracted tourists by the dozen.

In Bavandar, she is a victim of a gang rape who then takes revenge against her rapists. Ek Alag Mausam depicts her an AIDS victim. The only films where she does not play such characters are AKS and Hari Bhari. In Aks, she plays Amitabh's wife. Amitabh plays an old man while she plays a young girl. The film sheds light on their relationship. Hari Bhari is a Muslim subject where she plays an arrogant character. She has also sung a song in Hari Bhari and Bavandar.

Sridevi signs Karishma Kapoor

Sridevi has bought the remake rights of a Telugu film titled 'Anthahpuram', which is based on 'Not, without my daughter'. Initially Sridevi was supposed to play the main lead. Later on it landed into the lap of Kajol. Now it's Karishma Kapoor's turn to accept the role. Nana Patekar play another main lead in this film. Shahrukh Khan will play a special role in this film. In Telugu Soundarya, Sai Kumar and Jagapati Babu play these three roles respectively. Incidentally, this film will be the first film to be produced by Sridevi. Krishna Vamsi will be directing this film.

Hrithik to tie knot in Bangalore on 20th December

The speculation on Hrithik and Suzanne marriage is over. Hrithik will tie knot to Suzanne Khan tomorrow at Sanjay Khan's Golden Palms resort and spa on the Bangalore-Pune road. The mehndi and other ceremonies will be held tonight at Feroze Khan's Bangalore residence. Hrithik fans, who are expected to turn out at the venue, will be kept away by both the police and private detectives. The police force has been patrolling the resort's premises to prevent "intrusions". Hrithik and Suzanne will return to Mumbai on Thursday after the wedding while Rakesh Roshan is expected back on Saturday. We wish the couple the very best in life!

Hrithik was caught coochie-cooing with Kareena on an aircraft ?

Till four weeks back, Sholay used to hold the record for running 265 weeks in a single theater. But Aditya Chopra's debut film 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' has crossed that record by running for 269 weeks so far (still running). That means this film crossed 5 years and 9 weeks in a single theater. Sholay created this unique record in Minarva Theater of central Mumbai. And DDLJ has cross this record in Maratha Mandir Theater of central Mumbai.

Aishwarya Rai plans a portal

You would not realize the liability of owning portal till you burn your fingers. After Ajay Devgan and Sharukh Khan launching cineexplore.com and srkworld.com, Aishwarya Rai too is contemplating on floating her own entertainment dotcom. Wife Swapping is the new story line in Bollywood

Abbas Mastan of 'Baazigar' fame are coming up with a bold subject. They are making a film titled 'Ajnabee' that stars Bobby Deol, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor and Bipisha Basu. There are lot of discussions going on about having a sensitive point like 'wife swapping' in Indian film. As the people like Tanuja Chandra and Pooja Bhat are supporting the theme and directors like Subhash Ghai are fundamentally against these kind of offbeat and bold subjects. Though, this film mainly revolves around a murder mystery, it has also got a subtle plot of wife swapping that led to the murder.

Taj Mahal - India's first IMAX film

Incidentally, Taj Mahal is turning out to be first IMAX film by India. IMAX is a screen that is ten times larger than the conventional screen, with 20,000 watts of sound enveloping you, taking you inside the picture in front of you. The seating too is very special, to give users a one-on-one experience with the film. Investors of the film 'Taj Mahal' are K B Chandrasekhar and B V Jagadeesh, co-founders Internet infrastructure firm Exodus Communications Inc; Gururaj 'Desh' Deshpande, chairman of optical networking firm, Sycamore Networks, and Kanwal Rekhi, former chief technology officer of Novell Inc; and Lata Krishnan who is also on the TiE board. Aishwarya does the honours as Mumtaz Mahal. Rumours are rife that Amitabh Bachchan is being signed in for a key role. Shah Jahan might be a Hollywood actor. A R Rahman will compose the music, while Nitin Desai will create his magic on the sets, to Sooni Taraporewala's script. Another point to be noted is that the IMAX version of the film will be for only an hour. But the Hindi 35mm version would be of 2 and half hours.

Asoka - the box office Dud

According to Film Information, a Bollywood trade journal, Asoka's collections went down from 100% in the first in Mumbai to about 60 - 65 per cent on the 4th day. Delhi was worse, with collections dropping from 90 per cent on Day one to just 35% on Day 4. In Jaipur, it was down from 65 - 70 percent on the first day to mere 20 per cent on the fourth day. The saving grace has been that the film was sold at a very low price to the distributors - only Rs. 1 crore per territory, about half a price a Shahrukh starrer normally commands. So, while the distributors might just scrape through, producers will have to bear considerable losses. The story repeats itself in abroad too. In UK, 1,50,000 pounds were spent on publicity. The film was released in record number of 84 cinemas and grossed 2,35,000 pounds in four days of its release, ending Number 9 in UK Top 10. Its first weekend collections across 67 screens in Northern America amounted to $3,37,464, much less compared to Hum Saat Saat Hain ($6,51,575) and Taal ($5,91,289).

Asin opposite Vijay?

After their amazing combo in super hit Sivakasi (2005) and Pokkiri (2007), much-sought-after actors Ilayathalapathi Vijay and Kerala beauty Asin are expected to pair up once again in an untitled Tamil film to be produced by Aascar Ravichandran.

According to sources, though nothing about this film has been finalized, it looks like Asin would surely sign the project as producer Aascar Ravichandran earlier cast her opposite Kamal Haasan in his Dasavathaaram, which became a turning point in her career.

Asin has been out from Tamil films since long and if these reports are to be believed, she is now planning to make a comeback. Giving hints to her possible comeback during her recent visit in Chennai to receive the Kalaimamani Award from Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, she said: "I am so elated for the TN government honouring me with the prestigious title of Kalaimamani. Right now, I am very busy with Bollywood projects, but would surely accept Tamil offers if there are good scripts."

Prasthanam Getting Ready for Release

Prasthanam is the new film in the direction of Vennela fame Deva katta. Sharwanand is playing the lead role in this film. Rubi Parihar is debuting as heroine with this film. Ravi Vallabhaneni is the producer.
