Rahman to compose Keertanas for Tirumala

For the first time ever, the country’s premier Hindu temple is planning to approach A R Rahman to compose keertans for its traditional songs. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is contemplating approaching the Oscar winning musician to give his midas touch to 14th century lyrics penned by Telugu and Sanskrit poet Thallapaka Annamacharya, popularly known as Annamayya, praising Lord Venkateswara.

Though the TTD trust board chairman D K A Naidu mooted the proposal, the TTD officials indicated that they are contemplating this and a decision to approach Rahman would be taken only after further consultations. “We hope Rahman would be interested in extending his services,” an official said.
