Popular South Indian actress Kalyani (Kaveri in Malayalam), who won the State award (best actress) in 2002 for Avunu Vaalidaru Ishtapadaru (Telugu), will play Goddess Saraswathi in her next Telugu film titled Brahmalokam To Yamalokam with a tag line, 'via bhoolokam'.
Starring Rajendra Prasad and Sivaji in the lead roles, the film is directed by Gollapati Nageswara Rao and produced by Bekkem Venugopal and Rupesh D. Gohil under the banner of Lucky Media. Sonia of Vinayakudu fame is the heroine.
90% of the shooting has been completed at the locations of Hyderabad and Kerala. A socio-fantasy film, Brahmalokam To Yamalokam has music by M.M. Sreelekha and dialogues by Bhaskarabhatla. It will grace screens soon.
New song added to ‘Asal'
These are the times when films are getting chopped post release for various reasons mostly to make the film more crisp and interesting according to directors.
However, Sivaji Productions and Saran are doing just the opposite. Their just released ‘Asal’ film will have one more song added to it from this week.
The number 'Yengay Yengay....' which was there in the music album did not feature in the film as the makers initially felt that it would disturb the pace of the movie. Even the much talked about 'Em Thandhai...' was made to appear in parts to make it smooth.
At the audio launch Ajith said 'Yengay Yengay....' was his favourite song as it speaks about his life and journey, the insult and back-stabbings he encountered in his life. So Sivaji Productions has decided to satisfy Ajith fans by adding their ‘Thala’s beloved song.
This new addition has brought cheers to Ajith fans, and they say they will watch the film again to see the song. 'Yengay Yengay....' is penned by Vairamuthu and sung by S P Balasubramaniam.
Suriya with Big B in Lal’s film
The combination looks too good to be true. But the south Indian audience can get ready to see Tamil super star Suriya, Hindi super star Amitabh Bhachan and Malayalam super star Mohanlal all in the same film.
Major Ravi who is known for films with armed forces background is making another film based on the Kandahar Indian Airlines flight hijack incident which rattled the nation in 1999. For this film he is said to have signed Suriya and Amitabh to play important roles along with Mohanlal. Suriya who is very popular is Kerala as much as he is in Tamil is said to have impressed by the commando story immediately allotted the required dates. He already has the experience of playing a commando in ‘Varanam Aayiram’.
The movie will be a bilingual made simultaneously in Tamil and Malayalam and will be shot in Kerala, Delhi and Nepal. Major Ravi’s most recent outing in Tamil was his Keerthichakra’s Tamil version ‘Aran’ in 2006 which starred Mohanlal, Jeeva and Gopika.
Madhavan is happy in Bollywood
Madhavan aka Maddy may not be a big star in Bollywood as he is in Tamil cinema, but the actor says he enjoys working for Hindi films and is happy being in Bollywood.
"Yes, I am aware that I am no star in Hindi cinema. But I am enjoying the kind of work I am doing here. The response to my first Hindi film of the year '3-Idiots' has made me very, very happy," he says.
The actor, who is eagerly expecting the release of 'Teen Patti', in which he has shared the screen space with Amitabh Bachchan and Ben Kingsley, says, "Teen Patti is again a different story. Working with Bachchan is more than a delight."

Tight security at Ajith’s house
The entire street where Ajith Kumar’s house is located at Valmiki Nagar in Thiruvanmiyur was guarded by the police on Friday following an announcement from an outfit supporting stunt master ‘Jaguar’ Thangam that they would lay siege the actor’s residence.
Those passing through the street were allowed only after thorough scrutiny and fans who had thronged in large numbers were asked to vacate the place.
The stunt master earlier in the day said the actor would not be allowed to take part in film shootings anywhere in Tamil Nadu.
He was speaking to reporters on the ‘attack made on his house’. According to him, his house and car were attacked by Ajith fans, who were irked by his comments on the actor for his remarks at the recent felicitation function for the Chief Minister.
“Police have taken a partisan attitude with regard to the complaint I had lodged against the actor. The police had acted with speed after the attack on actor Jayaram's house and charges were booked against film director Seeman and his outfit. Also, when actor Vadivelu lodged a complaint against DMDK president Vijayakanth and his cadres for the attack on his house, police acted swiftly to rounded up party supporters”, said Thangam.
The stunt master pointed out that he would make a formal complaint against Ajith to South Indian Film Artistes Association president Sarath Kumar. “The attack on my house is a cowardly act by actor Ajith and it totally condemnable,” added ‘Jaguar’ Thangam. He also criticised Rajinikanth for lending his support to Ajith.

Film bodies demand unconditional apology from Ajith
The controversy over the speech of Ajith at the CM felicitation function on Feb 6 has stirred the entire film industry. Even after many statements and counter statements the issue is still simmering.
At a specially convened meeting today all the major film bodies, including artistes association, has demanded Ajith to render unconditional apology to the Tamil film fraternity for hurting their feelings with his speech. And the members expressed their agony over Rajinikanth appreciating Ajith for his bold words and also condemned Rajinikanth.
The meeting also decided to withdraw their earlier 'no co-operation' call to Rajini-Ajith films heeding to requests from the producers council and artistes association.
At the end of the meeting it was decided that the issue has been discussed enough and is declared over. It also said nobody should here after talk about this issue in media either individually or on behalf of an organisation.

Shruthi Haasan to sing in Kannada
And you thought only the beauties performing in front of the camera are lured by Kannada films. Now we hear Kamal Haasan’s daughter Shruthi is also being lured by the Kannada film folks to sing.
The musically inclined Shruthi will soon get an invitation from Kannada producer Soorappa Babu to sing a song in his new film ‘Prithvi’ starring Puneeth Rajakumar and Parvathi Menon.
Soorappa Babu who just returned from Jordan after shooting two songs said to IndiaGlitz that he will be contacting Shruthi Haasan to sing one of the songs for the film.
If it happens then that will be Shruthi’s grant entry into Sandalwood.

Animated Lava-Kusa in Tamil
Tamil cinema hasn’t seen an animated film for a long long time. Now Kanipakam Creations and Rayudu Vision Media Ltd are jointly producing Lava-Kusa - The Warrior Twins that will release soon.
The film based on the legendary characters from the epic Ramayana has been made at an extravagant budget of Rs. 25 cr. The intention of the producers is to bring the mythological legend to the present generation. Directed by Dhavala Satya, it is produced by Rayudu V Sashank.
Speaking to the media, Satyam said the five colourful songs and the war scenes will be the specials in movie. The film has music by late L Vaidhyanadhan. Sadhana Sargam, Yesudas, Vijay Yesudas and Chitra have rendered their voices for the songs.
This film will be released in three languages – Tamil, Telugu and Hindi – this summer.

Actor-choreographer Raghava Larencce recently built a temple for Raghavendra Swami, Brindavanam in Thirumullaivoyal near Chennai. The temple is getting popular among the masses and now nearly 4,000 devotees visit the temple on Thursdays, considered auspicious by saint Raghavendra. “I have no one to support in film industry. The growth that I had achieved so far is due to my hardwork and the confidence directors and producers had on me. Some forces which are unable to stomach this are spreading such rumours,” she says.
Tejashree adds: “I am really not in love with anyone. And I don’t have the idea of marrying someone connected to cinema. I want to make it big in films before settling in married life and I am striving towards that.”
The ‘Ottran’ and ‘Madurey’ actress is currently doing ‘Manmadha Rajyam’ in Tamil besides movies in Kannada and Marathi. “Manmadha Rajyam will bring out the actress in me. My role is so substantial in it,” she says.

Vimala Raman signs English film
Vimala Raman was the most promising new face when she was introduced in ‘Poi’ by director K. Balachandr. But she got her second Tamil film only after two years in ’Raman Thediya Seethai’. But the girl from Sydney is doing pretty well in other south Indian languages. She is even part of the current sensation in Karnataka ‘Aptha Rakshaka’ which is shattering all the previous box office records in Kannada.
Now Vimala Raman has been signed for an English film called ‘Dame 999’. She plays a native as an Indian Malayalee girl who falls in love with an English man. Speaking the language is not a problem as she was brought up in Australia and the crew will also be mostly Indians, that will make her even more comfortable.

Director Pandiraj turns to acting
Pandiraj has become the latest director to be bitten by the acting bug. Pandiraj is currently in Pudukottai shooting his film staring Arulnidhi who is the grand son of Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi.
Sunaina is the heroine for Arulnidhi. In this love story Pandiraj is playing a cameo that of a bus conductor. Pandiraj hasn’t selected a title for the film yet but is busy completing the first schedule.

Come summer there is a treat from Shankar & Co. For the director-producer is planning to release his production venture 'Ananthapurathu Veedu' by April, say sources in the know.
The supernatural thriller directed by Naga (of 'Marma Desam' fame) has Nandaa and Chaya Singh in lead roles. The film revolves around a married couple and the strange things they face in their ancestral house.
Impressed by the work of Naga in television serials, Shankar has given him the offer to direct 'Ananthapurathu Veedu', it is said, while Nandaa bagged the offer after his performance in 'Eeram', another film by Shankar's S Pictures.

Rahman, Ilaiyaraaja get Padma Bhushan, Rekha Padma Shri
Composers A.R. Rahman, who shone at the Oscars last year with his double golden statuette win, and Ilaiyaraaja have been honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the nation’s third highest civilian award, on the eve of Republic Day.
Rahman, who started his career in 1992 with Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film “Roja”, made his debut in Bollywood with the hit soundtrack in Ram Gopal Varma’s blockbuster movie “Rangeela”.
Some of his hit numbers are “Chaiyyan Chaiyyan”, “Roobaroo”, “Tere bina”, “Jai ho” and “Masakali” and “Kabhi kabhi Aditi”.

The daughter of late southern star Gemini Ganesan, Rekha bagged overnight success with her debut film and went on to become India’s sex symbol.
Rekha has acted in over 150 films and maintained versatility in films like “Do Anjaane” (1976), “Ghar” (1978), “Muqaddar Ka Sikander” (1978), “Khubsoorat” (1980), “Silsila” (1981), “Baseraa” (1981), “Utsav” (1984), “Khoon Bhari Maang” (1988), “Ijaazat” (1988), “Kama Sutra” (1996) and “Zubeidaa” (2001), et al.
It was Muzaffar Ali’s period drama “Umrao Jaan” that catapulted Rekha to unprecedented success and even won her a National Award.
Rahman, who started his career in 1992 with Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film “Roja”, made his debut in Bollywood with the hit soundtrack in Ram Gopal Varma’s blockbuster movie “Rangeela”.
Some of his hit numbers are “Chaiyyan Chaiyyan”, “Roobaroo”, “Tere bina”, “Jai ho” and “Masakali” and “Kabhi kabhi Aditi”.
In a career spanning almost two decades, Rahman who has his own music label called KM Music, achieved many milestones.
In 2008, Rahman scored the music of Danny Boyle’s rags-to-riches drama “Slumdog Millionaire” for which he won a Golden Globe. He also bagged two Oscars the same, becoming the first Indian citizen to do so.
Apart from the Oscars, Rahman has also been awarded with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award, four National Film Awards and 13 Filmfare awards.
The 44-year-old musician has also been nominated for two Grammy Awards, the results of which will be announced Jan 31.
While Time magazine referred to him as the “Mozart of Madras”, in 2009, the magazine placed him in their 100 list of “World’s Most Influential People”.
Ilaiyaraaja has been a prominent composer in the southern film industry since 1976. He debuted with “Annakkili” and is known for integrating Tamil folk lyric with Western music. He won the Indian National Film Award thrice for the movies – “Sindhu Bhairavi”, “Rudraveena” and “Saagara Sangamam.

Ramba's betrothel by tomorrow

Indiran has already presented a car to Ramba which is worth more than 10 million Rupees as a gift for the mingling.

S.S. Chandran hospitalised
Popular Tamil comedian and former AIADMK Rajya Sabha member S.S. Chandran was admitted to a private hospital here on Tuesday with complaints of breathing problem.
The 67-year old Chandran, who had also done character roles, was attending a function at Mettupalayam, about 40 kms from here, when complained of breathing problem.
He was admitted to the K G Hospital here in the early hours of today. His condition was now ‘stable’ and he had been kept under observation in the Intensive Care Unit, hospital sources said.

రామ్ చరణ్ పెళ్ళి వార్తలకు అల్లు అర్జున్ అడ్డు?
జూ ఎన్టీఆర్ , లక్ష్మి ప్రణతిల పెళ్ళి కుదిరింది అన్న వార్తలు వినగానే టాలీవడ్ లో మరికొంతమంది హీరోల పెళ్ళి వార్తలు కూడా బయటికి వచ్చాయి. ముఖ్యంగా ప్రభాస్, తరుణ్, రాజా, గోపిచంద్ పెళ్ళికొడుకులు కాబోతున్నారనే వార్తలు వినిపించాయి. అయితే ప్రభాస్ పితృ వియోగంతో మరి కొన్ని రోజులు వాయిద వేసినట్టు తెలుస్తోంది. ఇక గోపిచంద్ అనుష్క ప్రేమ వ్యవహరం ఇంకా రెండు కుటుంబాల సంప్రదింపులు నడిస్తున్నది. రాజా ఆల్ రెడీ వైజాగ్ అమ్మాయిని తన లైఫ్ పాట్నర్ గా ఫిక్స్ అయ్యాడే, ఇక తరుణ్ మదర్ సెర్చింగ్.

రజనీకాంత్ను ‘చంద్రముఖి’ ఆత్మ నీడలా వెంటాడుతోందంటూ వార్తలు వినిపిస్తున్నాయి. ఈ మేరకు మీడియాలో కూడా వార్తా కథనాలు ప్రసారమవుతున్నాయి. అందులోనూ గత కొద్ది రోజులుగా రజనీకాంత్ గుళ్లు గోపురాలు తిరుగుతూ, హోమాలు, యాగాలు చేస్తున్నారు. అలాగే మృత్యుంజయ హోమాన్ని సైతం రీసెంట్ గా చేయించారు. అయితే దీనికంతటికీ కారణం రెండు నెలల క్రితం చనిపోయిన కన్నడ నటుడు విష్ణువర్ధన్ అని తెలుస్తోంది. రజనీకాంత్ కి మంచి మిత్రుడైన విష్ణు మరణించిన నాటి నుంచీ రజనీకాంత్ డీలా పడిపోయారు. ఆ దిగులు ఒకటైతే, విష్ణువర్ధన్ మరణం గురించి ఆయన చెవులకు సోకిన కథ మరింత గాభరా పెడుతోంది.

Vijay Malik (Amitabh Bachchan) heads the TV channel India24X7 which is known for its trustworthiness. Vijay Malik is a man of great ideals and he strictly follows them. His son Jay Malik (Sudeep) is a hot-blooded youngster who thinks that media is like any other business. Purab (Ritesh Deshmukh) is a disciple of Vijay Malik and he emulates the ethics and principles of Vijay Malik in his work. Mohan Pandey (Paresh Rawal) is the opposition leader who wants to become the PM at any cost. Pandey uses Jai to mudsling against the PM through Inda24X7 TV channel. The rest of the story is all about what happens when Vijay Malik comes to know about the truth.
Actors:
Amitabh Bachchan comes up with his finest work as an idealistic media man. He adds value to the character he played. He is superb in the climax episode. Sundeep is excellent as the corrupted son. Ritesh Deshmukh is very good as disciple of Amitabh. Paresh Rawal is perfect as the bad politician. Mohnish Behl is apt. Gul Panag is adequate. Rajpal Yadav adds entertaining in this otherwise serious movie. Rajat Kapoor and Neetu Chandra are fine. Suchitra Krishna Murthy is extremely natural.

Story - screenplay – direction: Story idea of the movie is good. It shows how media manipulates the minds of viewers and programs the viewers to do what media is intended to achieve. It is a challenge to attempt such a niche subject. One such movie of this genre I saw in the recent past was ‘Corporate’ (Mathur Bandarkar). Ram Gopal Varma comes up with nice screenplay and directs the movie well. He has taken some liberty and simplified the story in order to get his point across. Ram Gopal Varma also used the age-old formula of noble father (Amitabh) – corrupt son (Sudeep) – idealistic protégé (Ritesh) to create some familiar yet effective drama. I also like the way Ram Gopal Varma focuses on actors expressions instead of showing the content of tapes when they get hold of evidence tapes.
Other technical departments: Background music is nice. Cinematography is good and watch out for camera angles and camera movements in vital scenes of the movie. Editing is perfect. Dialogues are of top notch (especially the dialogue that says that the target of TV channels should be news and the medium is money – but TV channels target has become the money and the medium is news).
Analysis: Rann is a niche movie made on the nexus of media and politicians. It shows us how media which supposed to guard truth is becoming a medium for politicians to doctor the minds of viewers/voters. The movie belongs to Amitab Bachchan in the first half and in the last 20 minutes. Most of the second half belongs to Ritesh. Only flaw in the movie is about how Amitabh blindly trusts his son. Rann might not be a film for everybody, but it is RGV’s best movie since Company. Watch Rann for the performances and the intensity.

Rizwan joins the job of selling cosmetic products and thats where he meets the hair-stylist Mandira (Kajol) – a single mother. He falls in love with her and she is convinced with him too and they get married. Mandira’s son takes an instant liking in Rizwan. The 9/11 incident happens after their marriage and their son becomes a victim. The rest of the story is all about how Rizwan and Mandira fight their way individually through Muslim-conscious USA.
Actors:
Shahrukh Khan: Being the superstar Shahrukh Khan doesn’t get an opportunity to reveal the actor within often. My Name Is Khan (MNIK) gives him a splendid opportunity to come up with an awesome performance. He lives the character of a guy who suffers from two things – Asperger’s Syndrome and Anti-muslim bias. SRK has all the chances to bag the best actor award with this role. He reminds us of Dustin Hoffman in Rainman movie.
Others: Kajol is really good and she looks very elegant and chirpy when she is paired with Shahrukh and she is excellent in her role. Zarina Wahab is exceptional as the mother of Shahrukh. Jimmy Shergill shines again as the brother. Special mention should be given to Tanay Chedda who acted as childhood Shahrukh. Parvin Dabas (Khosla Ki Ghosla fame) is impressive.

Story: The basic characterization and plot is heavily borrowed from Forrest Gump. The following similarities substantiate it –
1. Like Forrest Gump, this movie too is the journey of an unusual person.
2. Forrest Gump’s mother says, "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Khan’s mother says, “There are only two people on this earth. The good ones and the bad ones.”. Both these characters repeatedly utter this dialogue at important occasions.
3. Over a period of time, both these characters become celebrities and they are focussed heavily by the media. If the media wants to know why Forrest Gump is running, the media in this movie wants to know why Khan wants to meet the president.
4. Both these films are about differently-able man helping others and becoming a public hero.
5. Both these movies have similar narrative style (starting from their childhood).
Basic plot (spoilers ahead): The basic story of the movie is to tell that not all the people who bear Khan in their name are terrorists. In order to make this statement more effective and in order to get sympathy, the story writer made the character of SRK a differently-able one. To avoid this movie being a complete Mulsim-biased one, hero character marries a Hindu girl. What makes the entire plot intriguing is that the Hindu kid who bears Khan surname (because his Hindu mother married a Muslim guy for her second married) got killed for being a Muslim. An emotional wife tells her husband to go away and meet the president of USA to tell that Khans are not terrorists. Hero travels around, faces hardships, meets lot of people on his way and helps them out and finally meets president to convey the message. The entire story is narrated in flashback mode when hero travels to a place to meet the US president.

He also added exotic locales and candyfloss romance in all of those movies. Over a period of time, his filmmaking has become formulaic. His latest movie My Name is Khan is different in the sense that it neither has duets nor routine commercial elements. Karan Johar tries to narrate this subject with honesty though we could see lots of influence of Hollywood influence in narrative style. The character of hero is also inconsistent – he behaves like an extremely intelligent guy some times and then behaves like a dumb guy (like Kamal Haasan in Swathi Muthyam.). This movie has several heart- touching moments. The following scenes are very good
1. The scene in which he unconditionally donates 5k for a Christian only meet.
2. SRK showing kajol a beautiful scenery.
3. SRK giving retort to USA officer after stepping out of prison.
The following scenes/aspects should have been handled better
1. The scene of kid’s death (the central incident that drives the entire story).
2. The entire hurricane episode.
Other technical departments: Cinematography by Ravi K Chandran is a visual feast. Visuals are at par with Hollywood flicks. Music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is good. Dharma Productions which is known for commercial movies went out of their way to deliver a message oriented movie like this.
Analysis: First half of the movie is good. Second half has some boring moments as the director made this movie to drive home the global peace message against anti-Muslim bias in USA. SRK comes up with an award winning performance and director Karan Johar departs from his usual candy floss entertainers to do this sincere film. My Name is Khan has heart touching moments and movie lovers (especially women folk) should carry kerchief to watch this movie. On a whole, My Name is Khan is an honest attempt from Karan Johar to make a desi Forrest Gump in the backdrop of post-9/11 life for Muslims in USA. You may watch it.

Other technical departments: Cinematography by Ravi K Chandran is a visual feast. Visuals are at par with Hollywood flicks. Music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is good. Dharma Productions which is known for commercial movies went out of their way to deliver a message oriented movie like this.
Analysis: First half of the movie is good. Second half has some boring moments as the director made this movie to drive home the global peace message against anti-Muslim bias in USA. SRK comes up with an award winning performance and director Karan Johar departs from his usual candy floss entertainers to do this sincere film. My Name is Khan has heart touching moments and movie lovers (especially women folk) should carry kerchief to watch this movie. On a whole, My Name is Khan is an honest attempt from Karan Johar to make a desi Forrest Gump in the backdrop of post-9/11 life for Muslims in USA. You may watch it.

Story
bindaas Ajay (Manoj Manchu) and his parents are alienated from a big family of factionists in Rayalaseema. Ajay belongs to the family of Mahendra Naidu (Ahuti Prasad). Seshadri Naidu (Jaya prakash Reddy) is the enemy of Mahendra Naidu. They keep killing the family members of each other. The story of the movie is all about the free spirited Ajay puts an end to these killings.
Artists Performance
bindaas Manoj Manchu: Manoj Manchu deserves a huge round of applause for his terrific work in this movie. Manoj has shown inclination to do something different with Nenu Meeku Telusa and Prayanam movies. Bindaas is a regular commercial film and Manoj Manchu brought a new perspective to his character with his extremely cool attitude. Characterization done by Veeru Potla should also be commended. His dialogue delivery, comedy expressions and dare-devil stunts are really good.
bindaas Others: Sheena looks like a kid (not like a heroine of a commercial film) and she is adequate. Vennela Kishore gets an entertaining role and he is really good. Sunil is nice in the supportive role. Master Bharat has done another entertaining character in this movie. Brahmanandam entertains again. MS Narayana is good though his role is a small one.

bindaas Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the movie is little predictable. The story has some shades in Venky’s Kalisundam Raa. What separates this movie from the similar movies that came in the recent months was the treatment and characterizations done by the first time director Veeru Potla. He shows very good promise with this movie and he has it in him to become big in the future. He has got good timing in comedy and entertainment. However, he needs to work on the holistic perspective of the movie.
bindaas Other departments: Music by Bobo Sashi should have been better. Cinematography is alright. Dialogues by Veeru Potla are huge plus to the movie. There are a good number of humor-laced conversations at regular intervals. Stunts and chases are beautifully coordinated. Producer Anil Sunkara comes up with good production values and publicity.
bindaas Analysis: First half of the movie is entertaining. Second half goes on predictable mode. Climax is clichéd. Debutant director Veeru Potla shows promise and he has got good grip in entertaining scenes. Plus points of the movie are Manoj Manchu’s entertaining performance and entertainment. On the flipside, heroine and music should have been better. The story of Bindaas offers nothing new, but Veeru Potla succeeds in making this movie appear entertaining despite of clichéd story. Bindaas also has enough commercial elements that could work at box office.

Story
kedi Ramesh (Nagarjuna) runs away from home during his childhood and gets attracted towards smuggling. He is an expert in smuggling and con activities. He settles in Goa and works for a big-time smuggler Chandra (Ankur Vakil). Something goes wrong in a deal and Ramesh does an unthinkable mistake. ACP Sekhar who is in pursuit of Ramesh nabs him and starts an interrogation. The rest of the story is all about how Ramesh redeems himself.
Artists Performance
kedi Nagarjuna keeps surprising everyone with his looks. He looks slimmer, younger and dashing in the role of Kedi. He is so handsome that he could give any young Telugu actor a run for his money. And the heroines of Nagarjuna should really do something extraordinary to match up to his looks. Mamata Mohandas suited the role well and did commendable job within the limitations of the characterization. Ankur Vakil (Slumdog Millionaire fame) is competent. Sayaji Shinde shines in the role of honest officer. Brahmanandam is partly entertaining. Harsha Vardhan did the role of hero’s sidekick and he has got lots of footage in the movie. Anushka did a cameo in Maya Maschindra song that comes during title cards of the movie. Hindi actors like Nirmal Pandey, Akhilendra Mishra and Kelly Dorji did roles in the movie. The rest of the actors consist of mostly TV artists.

kedi Story: The basic arch of the story has it’s roots in Hindi flick ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ (click here for jeevi review). That movie is based on a real life story of a passionate thief called Bunty in Delhi. The screenplay, narrative style and characterizations are inspired by that film. Both films start with hero captured by cops. Then the senior cop starts investigating and the flashback starts with childhood days of hero where he would have a love affair. The rest of the story is narrated through a series of flashbacks from the hero to the cop. The sidekick character is also inspired by OLLO. The director has added terrorist angle to the movie. An interesting aspect of the movie is that both hero and cop characters are realistic. Cop doesn’t hold any personal grudge thief and he treat hero as a fellow human being.
kedi Screenplay - direction: Debutant director Kiran tried to do a different screenplay with this movie and somehow he fails to produce the desired result. The main problem with the movie is that there are no commercial payoffs. One can make a good movie even without having commercial payoffs. But the director couldn’t able to narrate this ‘hatke’ subject interestingly. The movie goes into uni-dimensional mode in the second half and it cost the movie dearly.
kedi Other departments: Music by Sandeep Chowta is adequate. Cinematography by Sarvesh Murari stands out. The locations of Goa are well selected (especially the villain’s house where the bottom of balcony is touches the sea). Dialogues are alright. Stunts are realistic. Art direction is neat.
kedi Analysis: First half of the movie is adequate. Second half is disappointing. Nagarjuna should be appreciated for his guts to agree to act in a kind of this movie. If made well, Kedi could have become real class movie and if it’s not then the result could be catastrophic. The debutant director couldn’t handle the script well and it becomes an uninteresting fare. On a whole, Kedi fails to keep audiences interested in the movie.

Story
leader CM of the state Sanjeevayya (Suman) dies in a bomb blast. Dhnunjay (Subbaraju) – a relative of Sanjeevayya plans to take over the post of CM. Arjun Prasad (Rana Daggubati), the son of Sanjeevayya is a well educated and a successful entrepreneur in the USA. He realises that his CM father was a corrupt person and entire political system is infested with corruption. Arjun uses his brain to outsmart Dhanunjay to become the CM. The rest of the story is all about how Arjun fights the system of corruption and makes a difference.
Artists Performance
leader RaNa: The title role of Leader needs an actor of tremendous ability to do justice and RaNa Daggabati comes up with a fabulous performance. It was a brave decision by Sekhar Kammula to cast a newcomer like RaNa and he justifies it by doing excellent work. His voice is his best asset. He can speak Telugu in a highly authoritative manner. However, he looked little stiff and self-conscious in casual scenes and scenes involving heroines.
leaderOthers: Richa Gangopadhyay did a performance oriented role and she is good. Priya Anand is adequate. After a long time, we see Kota getting a meaty role and doing remarkable work. Suhasini is terrific in the movie with her controlled performance. Subba Raju is excellent as the villain. Harsha Vardhan gets another noteworthy role in this movie after ‘Anukokunda Oka Roju’. His performance is superb in the first scene. Tanikella Bharani is nice. Rao Ramesh and Ahuti Prasad are adequate. Udaya Bhanu did an item song in the movie.

leaderStory - screenplay - direction: Story of the movie is good. It’s about a good son of a corrupt leader taking the mantle of CMship to put an end to corruption. Like any other political films, this movie too has many real life incidents (YSR’s death and power squabble that followed it, Ayesha murder case in Vijayawada, atrocities on Dalits in Chunduru, Lumbini Park blasts etc). Director Sekhar Kammula introduced the characters and story of the movie in an impressive way. He set the right platform for the movie to take off in the first half. However, the tempo is not maintained in the second half as the main point gets diluted in love episode and family feuds in the second half. The following scenes of the movie are really good
1. The hospital scene where all the prominent politicians vie for the top post as CM battles death in the ICU
2. The scene in a song where hero gives cloth to a lady with torn jacket.
3. Kota’s subtle reactions in the scene of hero claiming CM seat.
4. Hero meeting Gollapudi Maruthi Rao and humiliating his greediness and hunger for power.
5. The scene of corrupting a section of MLAs (the background rendering of Idi Mana Bharatam is good)
6. The beautiful scene of explaining the ‘rice free’ scheme.
7. Maa Telugu Talliki song is excellent
8. The old man meeting CM about his dead daughter
The following things are unconvincing –
1. The entire MLAs are shown as crooks and this movie shows the entire political fraternity as corrupt.
2. The entire thread of Priya Anand didn’t work. The character of Ali (Harsha Vardhan) has a strong purpose to work earnestly for hero, but for Priya Anand there is no such objective.
3. Hero trying to betray another heroine in the name of love is not convincingly narrated.
4. There are some good scenes in the second half, but they weren’t properly established in order to make an impact on the audiences.
5. The entire second half runs on the single agenda of hero trying to save one lac crore fund.
6. The scenes of hero relinquishing CM post and going for elections and winning it are not narrated in an impact making way. All these scenes are inserted in a song as a montage.
7. The main villain is spared in the movie despite him plotting attacks against the hero.
8. The episode where Kota accepts that he is a caste fanatic in a TV interview defies logic (no successful political party admits caste bias openly).
leaderOther departments: Music of the movie is the biggest asset. Mickey J Meyer came up with impact making background score and rerecording. Equal mention should be given for DTX mixing in the vital scenes. Cinematography by Vijay C Kumar is neat. Dialogues penned by Sekhar Kammula are excellent and thought provoking (nijayatee gaa pani cheyyadamante tyagam cheyyatame, rice free scheme, oka china hope ivvara, ammaiki nyayam cheyyaleni CM vunte entha voodithe entha etc). Editing of the movie is very good in the first half, but should have been better in the second half. Production values by AVM are excellent.
leaderAnalysis: First half of the movie is very good and sets the right platform for the story to take-off. The built-up scenes of hero becoming CM and very well written and directed. The love/betrayal episode and hero’s effort to save CM chair brings the tempo of the movie down in the second half. Though Maa Telugu Talliki song climax is good, it appears abrupt and is devoid of the politically charged excitement required for ending of a movie. The intent of Sekhar Kammula to make a movie for corruption free politics should be appreciated. He did very good job in the first half. However, the things aren’t the same in the second half. On a whole, Leader is a noble attempt to do an idealistic movie. We have to wait and see how it performs at box office.

City-based Rayudu Vision Media Limited (RVML) on Friday announced that their first, full-length 2D animated feature film ‘Lava Kusa, The Warrior Twins’, targeting all people of ages and segments of society, would hit the big screens this summer.
At a press conference, CEO R.V. Rayudu said they had invested Rs. 100 crore in the media venture RVML and that the verticals would include animation institutes and a Telugu television channel. The venture marks the diversification of the Rayudu Laboratories, known as a manufacturer of specialty inks, into the animation business. The film based on a story from the epic Ramayana would be released in English, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil and directed by veteran Dhavala Satyam. The film was been entirely made at RVML laboratories, that has 400 people working on animation projects. Once ‘Lava Kusa’ is released, work will begin on ‘Pappu - The Saviour’ and the television series Leo n’ Meo.

Yesudas, Shankar Mahadevan, Chitra and Sadhana Sargam in Telugu and Hindi, with lyrics penned by Veturi Sundarama Murthy (Telugu), Pandit Kiran Mishra (Hindi) and Pirai Sudan (Tamil)(The Hindu).

Devi Sri compliments to Thaman
Young music composer Thaman Sai is on cloud nine for two reasons. One, he will soon be joining the big league. He’ll be part of the Kamal Haasan-KS Ravikumar-Udhayanidhi combo for their comedy caper Yaavarum Kelir. Second, his recent album Mun Dhinam Partheney is a hit and two of the songs are already chartbusters. The movie, produced by Seventh Channel, has newcomers Sanjay, Ekta, Lizna and Pooja in the lead.

Upendra is currently doing a trilingual film in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. Nayana Tara is playing female lead. Popular Kannada producer Rockline Venkatesh is producing this film as 25th venture on Rockline banner. Incidentally Upendra is directing a film after a gap of 10 years. Upendra is doing the role of a rich man in this movie. This film will be shot in AP, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Mumbai and London. This film was launched on 18th Feb in Bangalore.
Padmanabham is no more
Padmanabham (79) - veteran actor and popular comedian of golden cinema died of cardiac arrest in Chennai today. Padmanabham was born in Simhadripuram (Kadapa dist) on 20 August 1931. He entered into Telugu film industry in 1943 and acted in over 400 movies. He was also seen acting in Chakram and Tata Birla Madhyalo Laila few years back. May his soul rest in peace.
Vivek gets close after kiss
Vivek Oberoi seems to be taking full advantage of his single status, and he’s had an extra good time shooting for Kookie Gulati’s Prince. After getting cosy with co-star Neeru Bajwa, his intimacy with the film’s lead actress - UK-based Aruna Shields - was also quite evident.

Sekhar Kammula made only three films in Telugu and all of them have turned out to be hits. The director termed his films Anand and Godavari as like his daughter. That means they are as dear to him as his daughter. He also said he treats his movie Happy Days like his son. About his forthcoming film, Leader, Sekhar Kammula compares it with his mother. Going by his speech, we can easily come to conclusion that his next will be like his father. That is Nanna Cinema.

Cameraman Ram Prasad joins Rajamouli club
For the first time, cinematographer Ram Prasad is wielding camera for top director Rajamouli film. He has stepped behind the camera for Rajamouli’s current film, Maryada Ramanna starring Sunil and Saloni. Initially, the film was to be filmed by ace cameraman Shyam K Naidu but Shyam was stuck up with Puri Jagannadh’s Golimaar, he opted out from the project. So Ram Prasad who gave stunning camera work to films like Atanokkade has joined the film. Maryada Ramanna is currently being filmed in and around Hyderabad.
Nayanatara acts with Upendra first time
Kannada actor Upendra has launched another trilingual. He returns to direction after long gap. Kannda top producer Rockline Venkatesh is producing it lavishly in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu and he has roped in top actress Nayanatara as heroine. The film went to the sets already and would be filming in various locations like Bangalore, Mumbai, London and Hyderabad. From April, the shoot commences in Hyderabad. “I feel proud to produce this film as Upendra is returning to direction after long time. When he directs a film, all his fans in Andhra Pradesh, Karantaka and Tamilnadu eagerly wait to watch it. So I have decided to make it in three languages,” producer Rockline Venkatesh told the media.

With renewed zeal and energy after delivering hit with Bendu Apparao , veteran producer D Ramanaidu is planning another film. This time he has roped in young hero Varun Sandesh. Reports say that Varun Sandesh has agreed in principle to do Ramanaidu’s next film in the direction of Eeshwar Reddy. Small time producer in big drugs racket
Kamineni Venkateshwara Rao aka KV Rao was detained by Hyderabad police in a big scam involving drugs. He produced films like Sakar and has links with some big producers in Tollywood. Police sources said 20 kilos of Ephedrine, a chemical used in manufacture of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, was seized from him and his associates. The two persons had illegally procured the chemical and were looking out for customers to purchase it for higher rate. The chemical was seized from a Toyota Innova hired by the film producer.
The duo is being interrogated to find out from where it procured the chemical. Sources maintained that persons who wanted to purchase the chemical from the detained persons managed to give a slip to the police.
The regulated price of Ephedrine in the country is around Rs. 1,200 a kilo, but it can fetch lakhs of rupees in international market.

Golimaar shoot in Malaysia
The unit of Puri Jagan’s latest movie Golimaar will be travelling to Malaysia from 8 February to shoot a few songs and vital scenes. Gopihand plays the role of an encounter specialist which is modelled after the Mumbai’s cop Daya Nayak. Priyamani plays female lead and Bellamkonda Suresh produces it.
NTR in Jaipur for Shakti
Regular shooting of NTR’s big budget extravaganza Shakti will start at Jaipur from 6 February. 300 unit members had gone to Jaipur. This 15 days schedule consists of shooting of a song and a few vital scenes. Ilena is doing female lead. Meher Ramesh directs it and Aswini Dutt produces it.
Srikanth as Ranga – the donga
Actor turned director GV Sudhakar Naidu is going to direct a film with Srikanth as hero. GV Sudhakar has made his debut with Nitin’s ‘Hero’. CR Manohar Naidu (Mahatma producer) and GV Sudhakar Naidu will jointly produce this movie on Golden Lion and Godfather Film banners. Currently story discussions are going on.

Nag to play Rummy in Kedi
Nagarjuna is playing the role of Ramesh who is fondly called Rummy in his forthcoming film Kedi. ANR’s song Muddante Cheda is remixed and kept in Kedi movie. Kiran is making his debut in this movie. Mamata Mohandas plays female lead. D Siva Prasad Reddy Kedi is all set to release worldwide on 12 February.
Leader postponed to 19 February
The release date of Sekhar Kammula’s latest movie Leader is postponed from 11 February to 19 February. Tagore Madhu (through Geeta Arts) has bought the distribution rights of Leader for entire AP (except for Vizag and Ceded). Tagore Madhu tasted success recently by dubbing and releasing the sensational Avatar in Telugu.
Leader, Kedi to fight for top slot
Seems that Leader and Kedi, releasing on two consecutive days, will fight for the top slot at the box office. While Shekar Kammula's film Leader is slated for a February 11 release, Nagarjuna-starrer Kedi is releasing on the next day. Both the films were earlier slated for a Sankranthi release.
However, they both belong to different genres, which may dent the market of any of these. While Leader is a "bold and message-oriented" film that is coming up with a political commentary, Kedi is an out-and-out commercial entertainer, with hero Nagarjuna playing a character with negative shades.
If Daggubati Rana's debut film sees him play Telugu cinema's 'Oke Okkadu,' Kedi, directed by debutant Kiran Kumar, sees the charming actor Nagarjuna in the role of a scheming gambler. Also, Kedi boasts of many North Indian acting talent. On the other hand, Leader is about how an idealistic politico grows up in the field of politics and brings about, well, 'a change.'

Simha to come on April 9
Balakrishna's film Simha's release date has been announced well in advance. The film, according to its producer, will be released on April 9, as a summer gift. From today, climax scenes will be shot in Hyderabad. The unit will take a flight to foreign countries to picturise three songs from the 20th.
The film is directed by Boyapati Sreenu. The director has said that Balakrishna will be seen in an interesting role in the film. His diction, accent and acting style are all going to be new. As the film's working title Simha has got huge response from the audience and fans of the star, the producers have decided to go ahead with it. The makers say that Balayya will be seen in a new avatar in the film. The actor is coming in a never-seen-before performance.
Nayanatara is paired opposite Balakrishna. Sneha Ullal and Namitha are the other heroines. Stun Shiva, Ram-Lakshman's action will be one of the high points of the film, says Boyapati. Songs are choreographed by Prem Rakshit.
Chakri is composing the music. It is expected that the film will be a huge hit in the career of Balayya. The producer, Mr. Kiriti said, "This one is a costly film in our banner. I think this film will be a sensational hit in Balakrishna's career. We found a wonderful subject."

Tejam on 12 February
Youth film Tejam is all set to release on 12 of February. This film features several youngsters (Sardar patel, Suresh, Mahesh, Raj, Vivek, Vinod, Goutham, Jayavardhanm, Ramakrishna, Satya, Praveen, Mounica & Rayya Chowdary) in the lead roles. Raj K Gopi directed this movie. Raja Sekhar produced it on Sunrays Entertainments banner.
Ye Maya Chesave music launched
Music of Naga Chaitanya’s latest movie Ye Maya Chesavo is directly launched into the market today. Incidentally, this is AR Rehman’s first album after winning the coveted Oscar awards. Sony Music bought the music rights. There are seven songs in the album. This movie is shot in USA, Chennai, Kerala and Hyderabad. Umarji Anuradha pens dialogues. Gowtam Menon is the director. Sanjay Swaroop produces this movie on Indira Productions banner.
NTR’s marriage in May?
Is NTR getting married this year? Yes, say the sources close to NTR. 27-year-old NTR was reportedly engaged. NTR will be marrying Lakshmi Pranati, a relative of former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. Lakshmi is currently studying in a private college in Hyderabad. The engagement ceremony took place few days ago in a low-key affair. All arrangements are being done for the grand marriage ceremony in May this year.
Trivikram directs Ram Charan
Trivikram Srinivas, the hotshot director, has been roped in by a leading advertising agency for their new commercial with Ram Charan. For the first time, Trivikram is directing a Television commercial. Not only that he also is providing the concept and storyboard for this ad that showcases essence of Pepsi drink. Ram Charan is the brand ambassador for Pepsi in Andhra Pradesh and his current commercial features Deepika Padukone with him which was shot by a Mumbai ad guru. But this time, Pepsi wants to cash in on the new popularity Ram Charan gained after the stupendous success of Magadheera. So they roped in Trivikram by paying huge amount.
'Leader' releases on Feb 11
All is set for grand release of Sekhar Kammula’s Leader, after several postponements. Feb 11 is the final date fixed for its release. Rana, the grandson of Ramanaidu, is making debut in this film and it was supposed to hit the screens in Dec 2009 but was postponed with turmoil in Telangana was at peak. Now, the movie is directly competing with Nagarjuna’s KD which is slated for Feb 12 release.
